Entropy and Growth Rate of Periodic Points of Algebraic Z–Actions

چکیده
Expansive algebraic Z-actions corresponding to ideals are characterized by the property that the complex variety of the ideal is disjoint from the multiplicative unit torus. For such actions it is known that the limit for the growth rate of periodic points exists and equals the entropy of the action. We extend this result to actions for which the complex variety intersects the multiplicative torus in a finite set. The main technical tool is the use of homoclinic points which decay rapidly enough to be summable.

Cost, `-Betti numbers and the sofic entropy of some algebraic actions
In 1987, Ornstein and Weiss discovered that the Bernoulli 2-shift over the rank two free group factors onto the seemingly larger Bernoulli 4-shift. With the recent creation of an entropy theory for actions of sofic groups (in particular free groups), their example shows the surprising fact that entropy can increase under factor maps. In order to better understand this phenomenon, we study a nat...

Dynamical systems generated by d > 2 commuting homeomorphisms (topological Zd-actions) contain within them structures on many scales, and in particular contain many actions of Zk for 1 6 k 6 d. Familiar dynamical invariants for homeomorphisms, like entropy and periodic point data, become more complex and permit multiple definitions. We briefly survey some of these and other related invariants i...
متن کاملOrbit Growth for Algebraic Flip Systems
An algebraic flip system is an action of the infinite dihedral group by automorphisms of a compact abelian group X. In this paper, a fundamental structure theorem is established for irreducible algebraic flip sytems, that is, systems for which the only closed invariant subgroups of X are finite. Using irreducible systems as a foundation, for expansive algebraic flip systems, periodic point coun...
متن کاملPeriodic Point Data Detects Subdynamics in Entropy Rank One
A framework for understanding the geometry of continuous actions of Z was developed by Boyle and Lind using the notion of expansive behavior along lower-dimensional subspaces. For algebraic Z-actions of entropy rank one, the expansive subdynamics is readily described in terms of Lyapunov exponents. Here we show that periodic point counts for elements of an entropy rank one action determine the ...
